CEO of VRMG, EDEM,  was on The Late Nite Celebrity Show to promote his album Books N Rhymes which drops today at Holiday Inn.
Reminiscing on his come up, the rapper revealed:
“I met Hammer in 2003 and that’s when I became a soldier in his camp. It was exciting. I usually say I met Hammer in 1999, once I heard Pae Mu Ka, I was in Primary there about and I knew this was the person I wanted to work with. But meeting Hammer was a different experience. You are looking at somebody who will turn off your phone when you step into his studio.
“When we were recording You Dey Craze for instance, he made everyone rewrite his lines more than once; I don’t know how to express it but he knows how to  make you grow, make you identify what your strength is and make you push that hard in that particular area. And he knows when you are ready to face the world.”
The One rapper revealed it could take six to ten years to prepare you for the audience at The Last Two Music.
“It can take ten years, it can take six years but you also have to put in work.”
“Because with someone like me, people said a lot of things to Hammer but he didn’t lose faith in me but it was people who were thinking I was a bad move from him to record me right after making a border crossing hit like Kiss the Bride with Bolley and usingEwe as a comeback was a bad investment.
“I had divided sentiments at that point but still went ahead and did the whole album.
“I remember sitting next to Hammer one time and a couple of other people and a very renowned Ghanaian artist told me, ‘Edem, you won’t make it’ that was in 2007 at Chances Hotel and we were sitting around the pool and that picture is still up in my head.  All I said to my self was ‘You’ll need me for a feature and I won’t do it.
As we speak, he needs me for a feature but I’m not doing it but I featured him on my song because now, I call the shots.
The Late Nite Celebrity Show hosted by Giovani and Co-hosted by Vanessa Gyan is on e.TV on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9.30PM.
