Looks like everything was going fine for Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 
2015 which will be happening tonight at the Accra International 
Conference Center until George Quaye announced that Chris Attoh wont be 
able to make early in time from Nigeria to steer affairs for the show 
tonight because of the upcoming elections in Nigeria.<br />
<br />

Charter House Ghana, event organizers of Ghana Music Awards thought 
it wise to quickly invite acting Head of Sports at Joy FM, Nathaniel 
Attoh, to host the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2015 tonight February, 
and he accepted warmly.<br />
<br />

This marks the first time he will handle the emcee role and will join Joselyn Dumas on stage.<br />

It is hoped that Nat Attoh keeps the show moving briskly along with the audience laughing — and in check.<br />

Since then, he has moved on to host very prestigious industry awards 
including the Ghana Insurance Awards, Advertising Association of Ghana 
(AAG) Gong Gong Awards, SWAG Awards, Consumer Awards for Nestle©, 
Unilever, and Association of Oil marketing Companies of Ghana.<br />
<br />

Nat is not new to emceeing work as he host events such as Miss 
Universe 2013, Ghana Movie Awards 2011, launches for Ghana Meets Naija, 
the launch of the Nineteen Fifty Seven Clothing Line by KOD, the Fashion
 Show of the Joy FM Beauty and Bridal Fair among others.<br />
<br />

He has also done varied corporate events for institutions such as 
Ghana Commercial Bank, Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, UT Bank, UBA, 
NDK Financial Services, Helios Towers, MTN, Airtel, Tigo, Ghana Re, 
National Lottery Authority, Minerals Commission, the Business and 
Financial Times, Indomie (Multi Pro Private Limited), Ghana Link, Ghana 
Statistical Service and many more.<br />

The 16th editions of the VGMA nominees jam took off yesterday 21st March in Cape Coast, Central Region. Takoradi-born Ghanaian rapper Pappy Kojo has said he deserves all the nominations he has received in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.<br /><br />Even though some industry players believe he didn’t deserve any of the nominations he had, the rapper says they are a true reflection of his work. <br /><br />Speaking in an interview with Hitz FM’s Ibrahim Ben-Bako, the rapper, when asked if he deserved all the nominations said “If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be in the categories because I’m not an Accra boy, I don’t have relationship with any of the awards people for them to even consider me, they obviously put me in it because they saw my works and they liked it.”<br /><br />Pappy Kojo was nominated in the Best New Artiste of the Year, Hiphop Song of the Year and Hiplife/Hippop Artiste of the Year categories all for his song, “Realer No”.<br /><br />“In the beginning I didn’t expect it but then I realize I have some numbers, people really like me, the kids dress like me, they follow me everywhere I go, so I feel like I have a certain type of people who look up to me.<br /><br />“Ever since the wave in the “Realer No” came [out] I see people with their tattered jeans, bandana and even with my hairstyle, so I feel like I am helping change a game so obviously yeah I do,” he said.<br /><br />Commenting on the genre of his song “Realer No” which features “Tonga” hit maker Joey B, he said, “My song has both the hiphop and hiplife feel. I’m doing it in our local dialect, it’s traditional and the feeling to the beat and melody has that hiphop feeling to it.”<br /><br />According to him, the fact that he was nominated alone makes him feel like a winner and also relevant in the industry.<br /><br />“I feel like am already a winner, last year June, July, August no one knew who I was and within seven months, I [have been] nominated. I never expected this to happen. I just want to go to awards [launch] and hear ‘and the nominees are Pappy Kojo’ it’s my dream, So if I happen to even get one I [will be] grateful. My friends and family are proud.”<br /><br />This year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) was launched on Friday February, 27 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel and the main award ceremony is scheduled for April 11 at the Accra International Conference Centre.<br /><br />Apart from “Realer No”, Pappy Kojo is also known for songs like “Hate the Game”, “Ay3 Late” featuring Sarkodie and “Mamma Mia” which features E.L and Jiggy.<br />

Perhaps, there has not been any awards scheme in Ghana that has been a listening one as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).<br /><br />Indeed one of the reasons why the VGMA has managed to remain relevant over the years has been its ability to adapt to changes. <br />Based on the feedback and advice from industry players and the general public, VGMA has made a few changes to this year’s edition of the awards. <br /><br />A release from the organisers indicate that in recognition of the continually emerging new genres on the music scene, the board has finally succumbed to the desire of  fans and created a category for Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.<br /><br />This is one music genre that has undoubtedly become a favourite of many musicians and patrons. Previously, Reggae/Dancehall only had one place in the category of awards, which was the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year. <br /><br />The new category definition, according to the organisers, reads, “The Reggae/Dancehall Artiste(s) of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Reggae/Dancehall genre. The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album in the year under review.<br /><br />This category is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested this year with artistes such as Stonebwoy, Samini, MzVee, Kaakie, Blakk Rasta, etc being tipped to be top contenders for this award. It is not certain who will emerge as the first Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the year but one thing is certain, it’s going to be an interesting wait till April,11, 2015 when the final awards event comes off.<br /><br />Another major change that has occurred is in the New Artiste of the Year category. This award, which recognises new and budding talent in the music industry is usually very keenly contested and as a result generates a lot of controversy as to who is actually a new artiste. <br /><br />One can recall the story of Kumi Guitar who many thought did not deserve to be nominated as a new artiste in the 2014 edition of the VGMA’s. To minimize the usual controversy that surrounds this award the category has been re-defined to capture the very meaning of “new” in relation to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. <br /><br />The new category definition now reads, “The New Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the most promising and talented emerging artiste(s). The award goes to a relatively new artiste(s) who released a single/album that FIRST shot the artiste (s) into the public limelight in the year under review.<br />
